My Business
I offer contemporary guitar and music technology lessons in the Sunshine Coast region. Lessons are available for anyone of a beginner to intermediate level from the age of 12. Over my almost 13 years playing and creating music, I have picked up a number of unique and useful skills that any aspiring musician will need, primarily my knowledge of the guitar and music technologies. I have had many guitar tutors over the years and feel I have enough experience to pick out what has, and certainly hasn't worked. I bring to the table a unique teaching experience compiling teachings from local tutors, YouTube and my own self taught methods. I specialise in contemporary genres from indie to metal, but encourage students to play anything they are interested in. Uniquely I have also taught myself music technology over these years, with experience producing, mixing and mastering genres from hip-hop to rock. I offer lessons helping students navigate Digital Audio Workspaces (DAW'S) and learning to write, record, edit, mix and master their own music.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that a great teacher is someone with not only skill and knowledge in a topic but kindness and an open mind. These attributes allow for the most fun and effective learning environment for the largest variety of students. This is achievable as the teacher is willing to teach students what they are passionate about while still arming them with the knowledge and technique necessary for growth and progression in music. I strive to learn the unique talents and interests of each student. As someone who enjoys genres like metal and hip-hop, I know some guitar teachers can be judgmental and dismissive. This elitist mentality can potentially turn students away from the instrument and deprive them of something they could love for life. I do not and will not have or encourage this mindset in or outside of lessons. I also believe that teaching should provide the teacher with challenges, and bring them out of their comfort zone just like their students. Encouraging students to choose their own repertoire may provide this, as the teacher may not be familiar with their chosen genre. This is my aim as a teacher and what I believe I provide to students.
